The Sloan Digital Sky Survey has published several papers describing the data,
the data acquisition process, and other technical details of the project.
These publications can all be found listed on the SDSS publications page.
The important ones are listed below also for convenience. The EDR paper, which
came out after the first public SDSS data release, contains the most detailed
description of the SDSS data.
- The DR7 paper is still in preparation and will be posted here when ready.
-
The Sixth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Adelman-McCarthy et al. 2008, ApJS, 175, 297.
- The Sloan Digital Sky Survey:
Drinking from the Fire Hose, Thakar 2008 ,
Computing in Science and Engineering, 10, 1 (Jan/Feb 2008), 9.
- CasJobs and MyDB:
A Batch Query Workbench, Li and Thakar 2008 , Computing
in Science and Engineering, 10, 1 (Jan/Feb 2008), 18.
- The Catalog Archive
Server Database Management System, Thakar et al. 2008 , Computing in Science and Engineering,
10, 1 (Jan/Feb 2008), 30.
-
The Fifth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Adelman-McCarthy et al. 2007, ApJS, 172, 634.
-
The Fourth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (Adelman-McCarthy et al. 2006, ApJS, 162, 38): describes DR4.
- The Sloan Digital Sky Survey Quasar Catalog III.
Third Data Release (Schneider et al., AJ, 2004, in press): this paper describes the public release
of the Quasar Catalog for Data Release 3.
-
The Third Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (Abazajian et al. 2005, AJ, 129, 1755): a description of DR3.
- The Second Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky
Survey (Abazajian et al., 2004, AJ, 128, 302): this paper describes the latest release, Data Release 2 (DR2), which was made
public on March 15, 2004. DR2 covers about 3300 sq. deg., or 35%
of the total SDSS survey area.
- The First Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky
Survey (Abazajian et al., AJ, 2003): this paper describes the first official SDSS data release, Data Release 1 (DR1), which was made
public on June 11, 2003. It contains about 20% of the total survey
area (2000 sq.deg.).
- Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Early Data Release
(Stoughton et al., AJ, 2002):
the Early Data Release (EDR) was the first public release of the SDSS
data. It was released to the public at the AAS meeting in Pasadena in
June, 2001. It contains about 5% of the total survey area (500 sq.deg.).
- Astrometric Calibration of the Sloan Digital
Sky Survey (Pier et al., AJ, 2003) describes the astrometric
calibration and data analysis of SDSS data.
- The Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Technical
Summary (York et al., AJ, 2000) is an overall technical summary
of the SDSS project.
- The Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Photometric
Camera (Gunn et al., AJ, 1998) describes the SDSS CCD camera.
